Sharks centre Ben Pomeroy is the first player to face the wrath of the NRL's new stringent shoulder charge laws, after he was referred straight to the NRL judiciary for dangerous contact to the head of Johnathan Thurston.
Pomeroy was placed on report in the dying stages of Cronulla's 36-22 defeat on Sunday following his late hit on the Cowboys half-back.
The Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) advised clubs last week they would be taking a harder line on any players who make dangerous contact with the head or neck of a player when attempting a shoulder charge.
Pomeroy was charged with dangerous contact by the NRL match review committee without a grading.
He also has 73 carry over points and looks likely to miss Cronulla's elimination final with the Raiders in Canberra on Sunday afternoon.
Thurston left the field but is in no doubt to take on the Broncos in North Queensland's elimination final on Saturday night.
Meanwhile, Parramatta's Reni Maitua was charged with a grade two careless high tackle out of Sunday evening's loss to the Dragons.
