Kelly's season likely over

Parramatta's beleaguered season took another turn for the worse with the news that Luke Kelly will be out of action for six weeks due to a fractured eye socket.

Kelly joined the Eels from Melbourne last month after finding playing time hard to come by behind incumbent five-eighth Cooper Cronk.

The injury, to his left eye socket, will not require surgery but needs six weeks to heal, in all likelihood will end Kelly's season as the bottom-placed Eels have just seven matches left and no chance of making the finals/

Kelly tweeted: "Fractured eye socket! Very disappointed to be out for the next 6 weeks!"

The Eels also revealed that star man Jarryd Hayne will not be fit to return against the Storm this weekend.

Grieving Bennett likely to miss Eels match

St George Illawarra coach Wayne Bennett is expected to miss tonight's NRL clash with Parramatta after his mother died.

Patricia Bennett, 81, passed away in Brisbane's Wesley Hospital early this morning from cancer.

Bennett took leave from the reigning premiers earlier this week to be at his mother's bedside.

It is believed Bennett's assistant Steve Price will take charge of the team at Parramatta Stadium.

Price, who succeeds Newcastle-bound Bennett as head coach next season, has previously taken over the reins when the Dragons beat Wigan in the World Club Challenge in England in February.

Bennett had returned home on that occasion when his mother-in-law died.
