Octopus omen for Origin 1

One of Reef HQ's underwater residents is favouring the Queensland team to win Origin 1.

He hasn't been proven as psychic as yet, but there's a lot at stake for Yasi the octopus to accurately predict the winner of the first State of Origin match for 2011.

"The pressure is on for young Yasi..." explains Reef HQ's director Fred Nucifora.

"He has been threatened at the Greek Fest coming up soon, and he could end up on the plate out there..."

Yasi has chosen the maroon team to win Origin 1, however Mr Nucifora admits the outcome may have been rigged.

"There may have been a little bit of squid put on the Queensland side..."

While Yasi was sporting maroon shades after choosing the Queensland side to win, earlier in the day he was looking like he favoured the southern team.

Octopi are quite chameleon like in their ability to change colour and texture explains Mr Nucifora.

"When people come to the tank to have a look at him he will sometimes change his colour and change his texture, it really depends on his mood and where he is."

While the science behind Yasi's selection may be questionable, the Reef HQ team are hopeful his prediction will come true.

"Well let's hope it is a really good omen and Yasi has got it right and we will get the Queenslanders off to a good start for six in a row."
