Furner fined $5,000 for questioning refs

Canberra coach David Furner has been fined $5,000 by the NRL for approaching match officials at half-time during Sunday's 40-22 loss to North Queensland.

The Raiders started the match leading 22-0 before the Cowboys scored three quick tries in the ten minutes leading up to half-time.

Early in the first half the Raiders were denied a 40-20 despite a kick from five-eighth Josh McCrone appearing to satisfy the criteria.

Raiders half Sam Williams was penalised for a high tackle on North Queensland forward Glenn Hall in the 28th minute.

Cowboys captain Johnathan Thurston scored his team's first try from the following set of six.

Shortly afterwards Canberra second-rower Josh Miller paid the price for not retreating 10 metres.

The resulting penalty gave the Cowboys the field position they needed for Hall to score his team's second try.

A statement from the NRL says Furner approached the officials as they left the field and questioned several decisions they made in the first half.

Canberra has five days to respond to the breach notice.
