Archer, Hayne to ref Origin III

Leading whistleblowers Tony Archer and Shane Hayne have been reunited to control next week's State of Origin decider at Lang Park.

Having officiated in one match each so far this series, Archer and Hayne - the NRL's two most experienced referees - will both be on the field together for what could be the most keenly contested Origin match in years.

Archer and Hayne combined to referee all six Origin matches in 2009 and 2010 before a change in policy ahead of this year's series with Jared Maxwell and Ben Cummins blooded in the opening two encounters.

Archer and Maxwell refereed the series opener before Hayne and Cummins combined for Origin II in Sydney, which New South Wales won 18-8.
