Charges laid over headbutt on referee

A man has been charged for allegedly headbutting the referee of an under 12s rugby league game in Sydney over the weekend.

Police say the 18-year-old referee sent an assistant official from the field after being abused at St Andrews, in the city's south-west, on Sunday.

The 23-year-old allegedly confronted the referee after the game and headbutted him.

He has been charged with assault and is expected to appear in court in June.

Hayne facing two weeks for head-butt

Parramatta full-back Jarryd Hayne is facing a two-week ban after being charged over a head-butt in Friday night's 34-14 loss to Canterbury.

The match review committee slapped a grade two striking charge on Hayne after he attacked Bulldogs forward Corey Payne in retaliation for an earlier high shot at the Olympic stadium.

Payne was also charged with a grade three careless high tackle and will miss one match unless he can beat the charge.
